Karen DeRuyter, a long time Vinings resident, has served on the Board of Trustees of The Ruth Carter Vanneman Foundation dba The Vinings Historic Preservation Society since 2009. She has served as the Society’s president for the past three years and under her leadership the organization has grown and prospered.
Due to Karen’s volunteer efforts the Society recently received a cash grant from IBM to support the organization’s Educational Seminars on the Historical Archeology Study program.
IBM nominated Karen for the President’s Volunteer Service Award, in recognition for her volunteer work with Vinings Historic Preservation Society.
The President’s Volunteer Service Award is the premier volunteer awards program established in 2003 to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our communities and to thank and honor Americans who inspire others to engage in volunteer service.
Karen received the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award pin as well as a congratulatory letter and certificate signed by President Obama.
