It’s almost the end of the School Year, and the 8th Annual Mableton Day Celebration is coming up on May 18 to celebrate.
The event at the Mable House Complex marks the coming of Summer with food, fun, crafts and even a 5K race.
Festivities begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K race sponsored by WellStar, followed by a Kids’ Fun Run sponsored by Cobb & Douglas Public Health/We Can! There will also be jumpies, Kids’ Corner, sponsored by PrimroseSchool at Providence Pavilion, entertainment, food, a classic car show, historic Mable House tours and the vendor area.
This year’s Mableton Day Old School Car Show, the fifth annual, will be “People’s Choice”. Attendee’s at the Mableton Day celebration will make their selection of the top three cars in the show. The Car Show is limited to 75 show cars on a first registered bases. There is a $20 registration fee to enter the contest. You can enter online or on show day if space is available. Show area will open at 8 a.m. All show cars must be parked by 9:30 a.m. Awards ceremony will be at 1:45 p.m.
Musical entertainment includes the Uhe Mixx band, Mr. Phillips, the Wallah African Drum and Dance ministry, Uni, Douglas Cameron, the last American crooner; and Kinetix.
This year, the Kids’ Corner will have a petting zoo. Health and wellness activities for folks of all ages are sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Commission, Cobb & Douglas Public Health and AARP.
Parking, admission and historic Mable House tours are free. There will be a charge for race registration, jumpies, and food and refreshments.
The day concludes at 2 p.m. except for historic Mable House tours, which will be available until 4 p.m. Come back that evening for the first Candlelite Concert of the 2013 season. Milkshake Mayfield returns to play smooth jazz and gospel music. General and lawn area seating will be free of charge and tables down in front will be available for a nominal charge. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will start at 8 p.m.
The purpose of Mableton Day is to “raise community awareness and instill community pride in residents and businesses in Mableton and surrounding South Cobb area,” according to organizer Albert McRae.
