12: CASPER’S FALL FUN and Movie Night. Friday, Oct. 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Village Green. Bring the kids for a fun filled evening with carnival games, inflatables, hay rides, and more.  The evening will end with the movie Coco being shown on a giant inflatable screen on the Veterans Memorial lawn. 13: FIRE TRUCK PULL 2018: A one-day event with teams of ten individuals competing to pull a fully loaded fire truck weighing 38,800 lbs. It is the ultimate pull to help those in need. Saturday, Oct. 13, from 8 a.m. – 10a.m. Cross Fit South Cobb.

13: HARVEST FESTIVAL. Mable House Harvest Festival will be held at the Mable House Historic Grounds from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Professional storytellers Josie Bailey and Joanna Maddox will be telling tales, plus, there will be musical performances, food and other activities.

14: AUTHOR APPEARANCE: Thomas Mullen. Sunday, Oct. 14 – 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Historic Reed House – 3080 Atlanta Road Award-winning author and Decatur resident Thomas Mullen will discuss his novel Darktown and the real-life history that inspired it. Set in 1948, when the city of Atlanta hired its first eight African-American police officers, Darktown paints a portrait of a city on the cusp of great change. 22: HYDRANGEA LOVERS:  Come join Jonquil Garden Club members for an exciting field trip on Monday, Oct. 22, to the American Hydrangea Society’s program on the care and culture of hydrangeas at 7 p.m. at Atlanta History Center’s McElreath Hall. Members and friends will leave from Smyrna Library parking lot at 4 p.m. and have dinner at the OK Cafe at 5 p.m. prior to the presentation. The field trip will be in lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
