Chamber Honors Public Safety Officers

Police, Fire, EMS and sheriff’s deputies from the South Cobb area officers were honored for their by the South Cobb Division of the Cobb Chamber October.

It was the 14th year that the South Cobb Division has honored law enforcement and emergency officers.

The South Cobb Council Public Safety Award of Merit was presented by Brad Hulsey to the following officers:

• Capt. Scott White of Cobb Fire & Emergency Services was nominated by Chief Sam Helton. Serving as Chairman of the Metro Atlanta Firefighter’s Conference in Spring 2011, Capt. White provided leadership in organizing the conference that brought some 450 firefighters to Cobb for the two-day conference.

• Three members of Puckett EMS were honored for their efforts in saving the life of a Mableton man. Paramedic Supervisor Craig Stanley, EMT Earnest Cauthern and Paramedic Stephen O’Conner were cited for saving the man who complained of heat exhaustion after cutting a tree in his yard but was actually having a heart attack.

• Cobb Police Precinct 2 Criminal Investigations Unit and Auto Theft Squad was nominated by Capt. Jeff Adcock for their work in reducing crime, handling more than 3,000 criminal investigations, 1,700 auto theft investigations and recovering more than $1 million in victims’ property in the past year.

• Cobb Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Cunningham is a 24-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office and serves as a field training Officer assigned to Station A, in the Austell Threadmill serving south Cobb. On Oct. 4, Deputy Cunningham pursued a fleeing suspect who ran more than half a mile through woods and jumping fences. In a fight with the suspect, Cunningham thwarted an attempt to grab his weapon and trapped him in a building until backup arrived.
