Smyrna Hosts Citizens Police Academy

The Smyrna Police Department will be hosting its first Citizens Police Academy starting May 20. The program will run for 11 consecutive weeks, meeting one night a week for 3 hrs, plus one Saturday.
Participants will get a behind the scenes look at police operations. The class size is limited 15 seats to allow for hands-on training. Special topics to be covered will include:  Criminal Investigations; 911 Tour; Defensive Tactics; Use of Force, Crime Scene Investigation; Police Ethics; Firearms Simulator; Gang Investigation; Child Crimes; S.W.A.T.; K-9 Operations; Constitutional Law; and a Jail Tour.
All participants must be 18 years old and undergo a background check. Priority will be given to Smyrna residents, but all are welcome.
