The U.S. Postal Service is asking some Smyrna addressees if they would rather be in Atlanta or Vinings.
In a March 12 letter to postal customers inside the I-285 perimeter currently served by Smyrna 30080 and 30082 notes that CobbCounty has requested that the Postal Service realign delivery boundaries from the Smyrna Post Office to be serviced by the Atlanta Post Office.
If approved, the last line of the address would be Atlanta, GA30339. If adopted, customers woul have the option to also use Vinings, GA30339 as an option.
Residents who received the letter have 30 days to vote on the choice. If approved, the effective date would be July 1.
According to CobbCounty, the benefit of the change enables the county to preserve the historical community by moving the entirety of the Vinings area as depicted in the “Vinings Vision: A Master Plan for a Georgia Historic Community” into a single Zip Code. The 2011 study states that residents will benefit from the community identity by solidifying their sense-of-place.
