GOODBYE 2024
and
HELLO 2025

GIANT GELT DROP AND CHANUKAH MENORAH LIGHTING

Chabad Smyrna Vinings will host a Giant Gelt Drop and Menorah Lighting on December 30 at 5:30 p.m. This special event will be held at Brawner Hall, 3180 Atlanta Road, Smyrna. The indoor/outdoor event features face painting, balloons, music, and Chanukah treats including chocolate gelt raining down from the sky. Smyrna Firefighters will also be onsite handing out toy firefighting helmets

What’s the Story Behind Chanukah and the Menorah? Chanukah is a Jewish holiday observed for eight days, this year running Dec. 25 – Jan. 2. According to the story, when the ancient Temple in Jerusalem was being rededicated, there was only enough oil for one day. But a miracle happened and the oil lasted eight days. The eight-branched menorah represents that miracle.

What’s Gelt? Gelt is money given as presents during the Jewish festival of Chanukah. It is typically given to children, often as part of the traditional dreidel game. Candy manufacturers offer Chanukah-themed chocolate coins wrapped in gold or silver foil, as a supplement to real money gifts.
