SES Aug A 2013 200Smyrna Elementary has set a dedication and open house for the community on Aug. 4 from 2-4 p.m. just prior to the opening of the school year on Aug. 7.

The school is also having local mural artist Scott McIntyre paint a mural in their media center. This mural features a historical time line of local and world wide events starting with ancient Roman and Greek history all the way up to the colonization of the Americas. The mural also features a history of the United States including the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Special attention is placed on the history of Georgia, CobbCounty, and Smyrna in particular.

“We are so excited to have such a great artist such as Scott paint the mural for the media center. Not only will this add to the esthetics of media center, it will also allow the children to have a visual history of the world in front of their eyes every day,” said Principal Brett Ward.

The Smyrna Elementary PTA is currently looking for donations to help with the cost of this mural, which takes over a year to complete.  For a minimum contribution of $20, a person’s name, a family name or even a business name is added into the mural. There are also sponsorship levels of Bronze ($100), Silver ($250), Gold ($500), and Platinum ($1000).  Forms for becoming a sponsor or having a name added to the mural are located[1] .
