The Food Trucks arrive in Smyrna every Tuesday evening.
Smyrna Food Truck Tuesday is from 6 to 9 p.m. at Taylor-Brawner Park, 3180 Atlanta Road. The confirmed food trucks for the first Smyrna Food Truck Tuesdays include: Buen Provecho, Happy Belly, Honeysuckle Gelato, Ibiza Bites, King of Pops, Mix’d Up, Pressed for Time, Yumbii, and Yum Yum Cupcake.
If you already know about the “street food/food truck” craze, all you need to know is that each Tuesday at Smyrna’s Taylor-Brawner Park (adjacent to the playground) your food truck cravings will be more than satisfied. Smyrna’s own food truck gathering promises to be one of the best – if not the best – location in the metro area and each week is expected to bring a rotating assortment of both savory and sweet restaurant-quality food to you in a beautiful, walker-friendly and family-friendly park.
Because it promises to be so popular, it’s highly recommended that if you can walk there, plan on it. If you have to drive, find a friend with driveway space nearby. Seriously, organizers recommend walking for various reasons. Aside from competition for parking, walking will give you a real feel for how walkable and beautiful the Smyrna streetscapes are becoming. The Atlanta Road trail is in place with lots of space for walkers, strollers and bikes (it’s a multi-use trail). What better encouragement can there be for getting out and walking than a great, and dare we say “hip,” meal at the end among beautiful surroundings. And, there may even be a nice dollop of nice acoustic music for you, too.
In case you have been able to miss the foodie news about food trucks sweeping the nation, a food truck (mobile kitchen, mobile canteen or catering truck) is a mobile venue that sells food, but think of it as a mobile kitchen bringing fabulous, wondrous foods to you at great prices and big smiles. Hooked you yet? Food truck dining has become a popular phenomenon across the U.S. with big showings in places such as New York, Los Angeles and Tampa.
Think “gourmet.” Modern food truck menus range from ethnic to fusion cuisine (but don’t forget the desert trucks). Many focus on limited but creative dishes with some even catering to man’s best friend. Smyrna’s very own “Happy Belly” food truck, for instance, boasts a Big Green Egg aboard with food prepared to popular expectations and tastes. Food trucks often cater events. For many years, The Varsity has dispatched a mobile kitchen for special events. The combination of technology (the boost social media can give marketing efforts) and economic opportunities have made possible the evolution of the modern food truck from taco wagon to fabulous “new eats on the street.”
A portion of proceeds from these weekly gatherings will benefit the Smyrna Education Foundation, Inc. (SEF) (www.SmyrnaEducationFoundation.org). SEF is organized to promote public elementary and secondary education within the City of Smyrna, Georgia, for attainment of higher academic achievement and for improved perception of public education through advocacy, education, research, sponsorship, service and support. Look for board members and volunteers (who specialize in information about the school serving your neighborhood) at each event to learn more about the real story about the public schools in Smyrna.
