Cobb2020 has launch the Farm Fresh Market beginning in May ?to supply fresh fruits and vegetables to residents in Austell-Six Flags Drive, (zip code 30168). Farm Fresh Market will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at various locations in Austell.
“The market will provide increased access to fresh fruit and vegetables to a population that does not have access to a free-standing grocery store,” said Becky Shipley, Executive Director ofMcCleskey-East Cobb & Northeast Cobb YMCA and a member of Cobb2020’s Healthy Lifestyles team.
In addition, the produce will be offered at a significantly reduced price to make it more affordable. The markets will offer grocery bags for $5 a piece and the customers are allowed to choose from 15 items of healthy produce.
Cobb2020’s Farm Fresh Market will not only increase access to healthier foods, but also allow the initiative to assess and study how behaviors and eating habits have changed.
“By providing access to healthy food, we want to be able to increase healthy eating habits within these areas and also see how a person’s lifestyle may have changed due to access,” added Shipley.
