FEBRUARY DINNER TO SUPPORT SMYRNA PUBLIC SAFETY FOUNDATION

The Smyrna Hero Dinner Gala will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, at Boxwood Social Hall in Marietta. It will include dinner, drinks, dancing, live music and a silent auction.

“Smyrna would not be the incredible community it is without the support and dedication of our first responders,” Smyrna Public Safety Foundation Executive Director Denise Czarnik said. “The gala celebrates the men and women who keep our community safe and helps us raise money to continue supporting them by providing the resources they need to be successful.”

Michael Magno will provide live music during the Smyrna Hero Dinner Gala. Good Kitchen will provide dinner with support from local restaurants, including Atkins Park Restaurant, Zucca Bar & Pizzeria and Muss & Turner’s.

Tickets are $125, with discounts available for two or more tickets. Tables for eight are available for $800. Tickets are available at 2025HeroGala.GiveSmart.com.

RESPONDERS NOW PROVIDE EMERGENCY TRANSFUSIONS

On Valentine’s Day, Cobb County first responders began a new life-saving practice, which has already saved at least one life. Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services is among the first departments in the state to implement a pre-hospital blood transfusion program, equipping select emergency response units with packed red blood cells and plasma to enhance trauma care and improve survival rates for critically injured patients.

This initiative is made possible through a partnership with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, a nonprofit organization supplying blood products to hospitals and emergency responders across the region. Research shows that administering blood products early in the field can significantly reduce trauma-related mortality by stabilizing patients before they reach the hospital.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION DINNER:
A NIGHT OF BLACK HISTORY LIVE

The Smyrna Public Library will celebrate 2025 Black History Month with a Celebration Dinner on Friday, February 28, from 6 to -8:30 p.m. in the Smyrna Community Center, Large Gym, 1250 Powder Springs Street, Smyrna.

Join them for a night of Black History Live. Atlanta playwright, Kelundra Smith, will be the featured speaker. She will discuss her journey from journalism to drama and introduce scenes from her play, “The Wash.” The full cast will read two scenes and transport us in time to Atlanta’s Reconstruction era.

Tickets include dinner catered by World Renown Catering, a presentation by playwright Kelundra Smith, and readings from her most recent production. General Admission: $20 and Reserved table of 6: $120. Ticket prices increase to $30 per seat on Monday, February 24. Buy your tickets here.

Kelundra Smith is an arts and culture journalist, playwright, theater critic, and editor, committed to connecting people with cultural experiences.

“The Wash” by Kelundra Smith is a new, homegrown play inspired by the Atlanta Washerwomen’s Strike of 1881. Just weeks before the International Cotton Exposition swept into the city, African American laundresses took a stand, demanding the right to set their own wages. The strike went from a dozen women to more than 3,000 in three weeks. The Wash offers an intimate and often funny look at ordinary women who went from workers to fighters– and won.

“METROPOLIS” SCI-FI SILENT FILM ON FEB. 23

There will be a historic screening of the 1927 silent film “Metropolis” (1927) on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. at the Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre (117 North Park Square in Marietta). The screening will offer a unique chance to experience a silent film with live theatre organ accompaniment from a traditional theatre organ with phenom organist Brett Miller. The screening is sponsored by the American Theatre Organ Society

“Metropolis” is a groundbreaking science fiction film directed by Fritz Lang, featuring a portrayal of a futuristic city divided by class. The film’s visionary use of special effects and its exploration of technology and social inequality made Metropolis a pioneering work that influenced generations of filmmakers and became a cornerstone of the sci-fi genre.

“We invite others to join us to see ‘Metropolis’ like never before, accompanied by the powerful sounds of the Strand’s Mighty Allen Theatre Organ and the incredible talents of Brett Miller,” said ATOS Atlanta Chapter President David Yackman. “This masterpiece shines with its groundbreaking visuals while immersing you in a unique cinematic experience that echoes through both time and music.”

Visit the Strand Theatre to purchase a ticket to the event. To learn more about the American Theatre Organ Society, contact aparrish@rhythmcommunications.com.
